Heights Platform Community Algorithm
The Heights Platform Community Algorithm helps creators build better communities, powering their community like a true social network. You can think of it as your behind-the-scenes engine for ensuring that the right people see the right posts at the right time, so you can help your community grow, engage, and thrive.
One of the biggest problems with trying to build a community on popular social networking platforms is that you don't really own your audience and you have no guarantee of if your followers will even see what you post. Heights Platform's Community feature provides by default is a list of chronological posts within a channel ensuring that nothing is missed when new content is posted.
This works great for members who are actively looking at and scrolling through your community. However, it's not enough. What can you do to get members who haven't engaged recently or maybe haven't engaged at all to see what's happening in your community? That's where the Heights Platform Community Algorithm comes in.
This algorithm works in three separate parts. First, it calculates the engagement of your community members and sorts them into relevant cohorts. This is based in part by their student engagement score and also in part by their recent community activity.
Next, Height Platform creates and calculates a reputation score for each of your community members based on the types of engagement they receive on their posts.
And finally, Heights will calculate a score for every post made in your community in order to decide which posts should be shown to which people via additional notifications.
This algorithm allows Heights Platform to send out community digest emails with relevant posts to relevant members, all completely automated so that you can help to engage and re-engage members of your community without any additional work on your part.
The Community Digest emails processed by the community algorithm are independent of notification emails if you or a student decides to specifically follow channels or posts and receive notifications for them, and they are separate from any @mentions notifications in your community.
Students can easily unsubscribe from these Community Digest emails with a single click in the bottom of the email itself, or by logging into their account and clicking the "Edit Profile" link from the top right dropdown menu.
Community Algorithm FAQ
What happens if a post is not very popular but then becomes popular later on? Who will receive digest emails about that post?
The community algorithm is consistently analyzing posts. And so if a post starts out as not very popular, it may not get as much reach in terms of how many Community Digest emails it appears in. However, if that post starts to perform better over time, then it will begin to appear in more members' Community Digest emails.
What if my community is large and extremely active? Are my members going to get bombarded by nonstop emails?
The absolute maximum number of emails that your members will receive is one per day. Each of these will contain up to a few posts at the most. Members who are not showing as much interest in these emails will receive them less frequently, even if your community has many popular posts every single day.
What if my community is small and mostly inactive? Is this algorithm still going to help me?
The Heights Platform Community Algorithm intelligently weights scores of posts based on your account and the activity in your community. This means that even if you have a small and mostly inactive community, this algorithm will help to send digest emails to members in order to get them to start engaging. If there are no posts at all during a week, then there will be no digest emails that week. So if you are working on growing a small or relatively dormant community, the best thing to do is start posting naturally and digest emails will begin to get created for your members.
Is Heights Platform sharing my member's post data in any way with any other Heights Platform accounts or with third-party advertisers when its algorithm processes data?
No, the data inside your community stays completely inside your community. The algorithm calculates posts based on engagement with your posts and your members only. This means every creator has algorithms processing only on their own data, and your members' data is not shared between accounts or with third-party advertisers. Heights Platform helps you understand your community performance through features like student engagement scores and analytics on the creator dashboard.
